In her first solo exhibition with MONO8, Aren't We All Running II, Francisco amplifies these themes through the structure and surface of the canvas. Bodies peek and emerge through crumpled textile, re-introducing us to jarring and startling perspectives of the human form while challenging painting as a format, extending it to the structure of the canvas and the gallery space.
Isobel Francisco's (b.1988) paintings are often centered on narratives highlighting figurative tensions and the relentless examination of what constitutes humanity by understanding the body. Her works have been presented in exhibitions in Hong Kong, Germany, China, and the Philippines. She has completed artist residencies at BONFIRE, Spain (2021), Pilotenkueche, Germany, (2020), and at the Vermont Studio Center, USA, (2018).
